TEMPLESMITH @ SDCC

Yes.

I'm going.

BOOTH 1131, find me half way up the back, between the A and B entrances of the con.

It'll be my last. ( Short of a really, really good reason to do it again and having someone fly me out, out of desperation )

SDCC has become something else. It's huge, it's not about comics much, it's crowded & full of status obsessed hollywood industry type things. It's not the personal thing it once was. You barely get to say hi to friends. It makes the idea of just chilling out and getting some work done, no stress from the travel, the hangovers, the lack of sleep… very enticing.

BUT… since I could get half a booth with a friend, I'LL BE THERE! One last time.

I've not been to California this year. I won't be again, either. ( Sorry, Madrid & Malta are calling me instead ) This will be your one chance to see me, get something signed or hear the news about what is to come. ( And boy, there is some stuff to come! )

I'll be debuting a bunch of things at the con.

FIRST!

The LAST IMAGE I WILL EVER DO, outside of original art/commissions… for 30 DAYS OF NIGHT. This is me revisiting, one last time, the thing that started my career, ten years on. Only 50 ever to be made. Each one, hand painted with the BLOOD. ( hence no blood in the image yet ) 11x17, embossed, $50 bucks til stocks last.

30 Days of Night: Last Drinks

SECOND!

MISSED ME. The second Zombie hand painted print, after DEAD SUN. ( Of which I'll have the last with me too, reserved just for SDCC ). Again hand painted blood, limited to 50 prints, embossed, same price as the last, 11x17 $50.

Missed Me

THIRD!

SQUIDQUEEN 1. The lady herself. stuck between two worlds, of sexy butts & tentacles…Embossed, hand painted blue/green tentacles, limited to 50 prints. $75 while stocks last of my convention supply.

SquidQueen 1

FOURTH!

SNEAKY BEERS. Yes, I've done a special print, JUST for Ben McCool, where we'll both finish the image WITH GUINNESS. 25 prints only. Definitely SDCC only. While the beer lasts… Get them at my booth or via Ben, at IMAGE COMICS, when we sign, Saturday, 2-3pm. Or possibly at the Gaslamp Hilton Bar each night!

Sneaky Beers

And LASTLY…

A fancy set of 5 zombie postcards… yes, I'm on a zombie kick lately… leading up to something big a little further down the road…

NEW WEBSITE!

2 min read
Finally... www.templesmith.com has a spiffy new lick of paint. I'll pretty much be doing most of my stuff there. I still check this page every now and then... it just doesn't slot into all my other social media so easily, so posting pictures here becomes a chore. Still, I will keep it up as I have a bunch of stuff to show. So many new, pretty things I hope!

Finally being productive again. No more crazy drama/people to screw over what matters most. ART!

No, no new Wormwood on the horizon just now, to answer the question. As a creative, I have to be happy with the work and the work environment, as well as the business side. Many things on Wormwood have changed, especially at the publisher it's tied to. So I'm taking my time to think about such things on it. Wormwood is far too personal. Can only do it if happy and in a good place. So it's hard to compete just now with the new ( and old ) work I also have on my plate.

Rest assured, he's not dead though and if you dig Wormwood, there's going to be plenty more in the same vein coming up anyway.

I have 2 years worth of pent up ideas I need to get cracking on.

And thanks so much for all the birthday wishes guys. It was a blast.

SAINT LOVECRAFT

Phew, so no update for awhile, sorry. Don't know if I'm coming or going! Far too much travel, barely any time for a new home base, though NYC continues to be one of the most amazing cities on the planet, with NYCC being a blast. Cheers all who came out to see me. May the Mighty Space Squid praise you all, etc etc.

Conventions for the year are done. Sadly had to cancel my ThoughtBubble UK  plans and all such there. Major bummer....just not enough time left in the year if I'm to actually get work done as well. Of which there is much and many many people clamoring for me to get back to things. Which finally, I am. Yes, CHOKER and FELL will see daylight sometime soonish. Sooooonish. Also a new studio set up ( I'll post pictures when it's habitable ) actually... 2 new studios... as by good luck of being a gracious human being ( or some such creature ) Menton3 will be helping me learn oil painting. If you don't know him yet, check out his new book, ( With Kasra Ghanbari, ) Monocyte, put out via IDW. Not your typical comic.

Working on some stuff I can't talk about too. Not yet, at least. Big stuff. As well as putting a few Ebay auctions up.

You can still find me in all these places, if so inclined.

So here's a few bits of art I've done lately. I'll try and resume regular updates soon with more WIPs, ( though feel free to follow me on instagram as "Templesmith" if you want to see some earlier. ) Saint Lovecraft up above, by the way, is a con exclusive print I had at NYCC.

France And NYCC

3 min read
Well, I'm about to head off to France, for a film festival in Strasbourg I'm actually on the jury for... I know, just a little bit insane. Even more so, it's with George Romero. I'm zipping all about the place, though I've just based myself in the most awesome New York City. Coming up though, is NYCC ( NEW YORK COMIC-CON HUZZAH! ) and it's going to be a big one so.... commissions wise, I'm already filling up fast so thought I'd publish my info for such things at cons. Might want to get in now before I completely fill up. email me at: bentemplesmith@gmail.com if you know what you want after reading below!

I should be in Artist Alley somewhere, almost the whole time.

First off, if you just want a quick sketch at conventions, those are absolutely free, as is the conversation! I just have to draw what I can easily...so kind of my choice so I don't get totally mentally exhausted with requests... and I love to personalize them too.

Currently not accepting commissions via online. Sorry! Got several I yet need to do and other crushing deadlines on main projects.

Commissions at US shows ( Internationally, I just do a rough conversion to euros or pounds etc )

Grey toned head sketch $80

US letter size grey toned watercolour painted 2  ( usually with a spot colour if it works ) 2 characters max: $200

US tabloid size, 11x17 inches, again, watercolour painted   ( usually with a spot colour if it works ) 2 characters max: $350

each extra character: $50

I do tend to start lists for shows before conventions, because I'm a trusting soul and can arrange to get some done a little ahead of time to fit more people in. If you know you'll be at a show and want one off me, email me: bentemplesmith@gmail.com pickup and payments at the show though. Huzzah.

Cash only at cons, cheers.

Current shows I *know* I'll be doing the rest of this year.

New York Comic-Con
Some French stuff
Thoughtbubble UK

And on festivals...If anyone wants me out at a show, just drop me a line. Have a nasty habit of usually accepting invites to conventions!
